Slow Progress, One Project at a Time

Good news. I finally have a front yard! A couple of weeks ago, my once barren wasteland of a front yard received a new layer of lush green sod. My only job was keeping it alive until it took root. After early morning watering and obsessively checking for growth, I'm happy to report success. Even though work was progressing on the interior, it felt nice getting this exterior item checked off.

Speaking of checking off, I also got the floors refinished and the dining room and living room painted. Things are starting to come together!

View from the kitchen into the dining room. I love the contrast between the soft pink and the deep blue.
View from the dining room into the kitchen. Also, I got plans for that chandelier...

The floors look so much better! The lighting makes the living room wall look like an accent but they are all the same color.

Super shiny floors are beautiful, but ventilation is an absolute MUST!

View into the living room. Unlike the other rooms, I actually painted the dining room myself. It looks really nice but don't lean in too close or you'll see my painter's mistakes!

This rug gave me so much life and I had to have it.

I started to make a list of all things I’d like done to the house but it was growing longer and longer by the day. I needed to categorize them by want vs. need, and things that could get done now and things that would have to wait over the next few years. Here is my preliminary list (sort of in order of importance):

  1. Add faux wooden blinds to the windows (right now I have paper ones and they actually look good enough to keep!)
  2. Paint front door DONE!
  3. Front porch furniture
  4. New house numbers, mailbox & porch light.
  5. Back patio refresh
  6. Landscaping/ curb appeal
  7. Convert smallest bedroom into dressing room (because, why not?!)
  8. Built-in shelves in Living room
  9. Craft area/ studio in basement
  10. Laundry room remodel
  11. Full basement remodel- this will take A LOT of vision.
  12. Basement bath remodel
    1. Phase I- cosmetic
    2. Phase II- structural/plumbing
  13. New back fence/ gate with opener
  14. Extend dining room-kitchen doorway with arch
As you can tell this is a really long and detailed list. I have to remind myself that I own this house. No one will force me out or raise my rent or anything like that so I have the luxury of taking my time to work on these projects at my own pace. If I always have something to work on, hopefully I’ll never be bored. Stay tuned for updates on this list :)

As always, thanks for reading!
